St. James Episcopal School Reviews

St. James is an excellent Montessori School with great teachers, students, and parents! The children love to learn and all work together to help one another!

Our experience has been incredibly positive. In addition to a strong core curriculum, the school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities and a creative environment that allows children to grow in many ways beyond academics. The teachers and staff have been loving and supportive - always available to answer questions and provide a point of view. The communications with families is excellent.

My children attended St. John's from Pre-K through sixth grade before we moved to another city. As public school was not a good option in our Dallas neighborhood, we found St. John's to be an excellent choice. Its Christian basis, coupled with concerned and caring teachers, made it a happy and nurturing environment for my children. They were well prepared for their new school's strenuous requirements, and they have continued to receive exemplary grades. I understand that tuition has increased since we left, but the new facility is wonderful, and the cost is on par or less than other private schools in Dallas. Given the poor state of Dallas public schools, I would not hesitate to recommend St. John's. I believe that the administrators strive to achieve excellence in all that the school does. It is also perfect for those who prefer a smaller, more personal school for their children.

I would suggest thinking carefully about sending your child to St. John s in a non entry point year. Programs integrating new students can be lackluster at best, especially in the younger age brackets. Class sizes typically dwindle in the later grades as students move on to schools offering a 12 year program. On balance the faculty is good to excellent, but like most schools there are a few teachers who are just putting in their time. The athletic program strikes the right balance between competition and fun. Fine art programs are exceptional. Computers skills and technology programs are very weak. Administration is average at best. If you have an issue, you must be prepared to solve it yourself. It's very much a 'one size fits all' educational experience.

Our experience at St. John's has been wonderful. The teachers are excellent and genuinely concerned with the academic and social needs of each individual child. The facilities are first rate. There is a wide variety of extracurricular activities including sports, intellectual and just for fun stuff. The environment is very safe and nurturing and you would be doing yourself a dis-service if you did not at least consider St. Johns' for your child. It is still one of the best kept secrets in Dallas.

I am an alumni of St. John's School, and I think it is the best elementary school in Texas. I went there for 10 whole years, and I don't have one complaint. The teachers taught us imporant class subjects as well as life long lessons. Also, we had many new students come in the middle of the year into our grade. We were very accepting and kind, and I know that's how the students at St. John's were brought up! St. John's has advanced technology. Starting in 5th grade, each student gets a personalized form of technology. I also would like to add that each subject teaches the students about one level ahead of the grade levels in public school. When I was in 7th grade I was learning 8th-9th grade level material. I would definetly reccomend St. John's School to anyone who is interested. It is the best school ever!

Incredible extracurriculars are offered here at this recently upgraded private school as well as overwhelming parental support. Art, music and technology are curriculum highlights. Academics although good, are touted as better than they actually are. With escalating prices as well as capital campaign and annual fund requirements, I would suggest checking out the competition. Whereas this school was once considered the 'best kept secret' and 'best value' private school, I would question if it actually lives up to it's more well-known predecessors such as Greenhill, ESD, etc. For good value schools, I would suggest checking into St. Pats, St. Thomas and Travis Gifted & Talented Magnet.
