The first ever D Art Slam at f.i.g. arrives in the Dallas Arts District this week, bringing together the works of more than 150 local artists. The Art Slam, developed in partnership by D Magazine and the Fashion Industry Gallery (f.i.g.), offers a chance for art fans to view and purchase works in a wide range of mediums by regional creatives. The f.i.g. will host the exhibit in its large, high-concept gallery setting May 28-31.
As a juried event, the artists featured at the Art Slam applied for a place in the exhibit and were chosen by a panel of local arts community advocates. Additionally, the jury panel will award artists individual honors called the New Dallas Nine Awards, based on the tenets of a special group of experimental artists from the 1930s and '40s who called themselves the Dallas Nine. Artists who receive one of the New Dallas Nine Awards will be featured in an upcoming issue of D Magazine.
The event kicks off with a special preview party on May 28 at 7 p.m. where patrons can mix and mingle with the featured artists and the jury panel, as well as get a first look at the entire exhibit.
Tickets for the Thursday evening preview event go for $100 each and include admission every day of the exhibit. A daily ticket goes for $20 and a three-day pass goes for $35. Students and senior citizens can buy daily tickets for $15. Tickets for the three-day show and for the evening preview party can be purchased at d-artslam.com.
