Dallas' Highland Park Village: A shopper's paradise

Highland Park Village is the most historic shopping center in the United States and one of Dallas’ most luxurious shopping destinations.  The Village or HPV, as it is known by Dallasites, was designed and conceived in 1928 and opened in 1931.  It’s the nation’s first planned shopping center with stores facing toward a central parking area under a unified architectural style.  The Village became a National Historic Landmark in 2000.

The center not only has stores but some of Dallas’ most well known fine-dining restaurants – Patrizio, MiCocina and Café Pacific call the Village home along with Celebrity Café & Bakery, Who’s Who Burger and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt.  Top Chef season III contestant Tre Wilcox and Dallas restauranteur Brian Twomey are set to open the global fusion Marquee Club inside the newly refurbished centerpiece of the Village, the Village Theater.  The Marquee’s outdoor seating will literally be on top of the theater’s marquee.  The restaurant and the theater open in the fall.

And, the shopping is superb. Carolina Herrera’s flagship store is here along with Tory Burch, Hermes, Escada, Chanel, Vince, Scoop NYC, St John and Ralph Lauren, to name a few.  Ralph Lauren’s old school inspired Rugby Store has a home here. New York’s Italian-inspired preppy chic Leggiadro is set to open a Village store soon along with Diane Von Furstenberg and Yves Saint Laurent.  Custom clothing is available from Robert Talbott, Q Custom Clothing and Hadleigh’s atelier.

“Sex and the City’s” Carrie Bradshaw would feel right at home in the Village, with boutiques from designers who brought shoes to a whole new level, including Jimmy Choo and Dallas-based East 61st Street.  Christian Louboutin is about to open his only Dallas store to join the Village parade.  And she can adorn herself with jewels from Noble Boutique, Calame Jewelers and New York’s Harry Winston and Judith Ripka.

Mr. Big could also find something for himself from Beretta Gallery, Pockets Menswear and Bang & Olufsen.

These are just some of the stores that Highland Park Village has to offer.  Check out their website for a complete listing.
