Dinner and a show at the same time -- it's not an unfamiliar idea now that movie theaters have merged with restaurants and we have the Studio Movie Grill and its ilk. But old-school dinner theatre? What a delicious concept!
The plays offered by the Pocket Sandwich Theatre are locally produced and feature local talent. Currently, "Sherlock Holmes -- The Melodrama" is playing until May 15. Many of Pocket Sandwich Theatre's plays are what they refer to as "popcorn melodramas." That's exactly what it sounds like -- a silly, melodramatic live show, where the actors are pelted with popcorn by the (increasingly less sober as the night goes on) theatergoers.
The mainstage shows play each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night at 8 p.m. with optional dinner service at 6:30. Shows are Sunday at 7 with optional dinner service at 5:30.
Late at night, when the crowds become even more restless (and lubricated), Pocket Sandwich Theater caters to its audience with special adults-only shows, including comedy and melodramas. Late-night shows play Friday and Saturday night at 11:15. Limited food service is available.
On Wednesdays, musical acts and comedy troupes are featured at 7:30 or 8 p.m. Seating begins at 6:30 and kitchen service is available.
Food is tasty and basic. Appetizers include nachos and buffalo wings. Entrees include sandwiches, wraps, loaded baked potatoes, and salads. For dessert, try a flavored cheesecake or brownie sundae. And, of course, beer and wine is available.
